History of the Collegiate School

The original building at 28 Poole Rd built in 1876 was possibly the first school in Bournemouth.

Bournemouth Collegiate School was originally a girls school. The building was purpose built to be a school.  It was established  to provide non-denominational education for young ladies with a strong Christian ethos (and with links to the United Reform Church).

In 1923 the girls school moved to Wentworth Lodge, which became known as Wentworth College.

The building at 28 Poole Rd in Bournemouth was eventually taken over by the boys Collegiate School.
(I am not sure of the exact year that The Collegiate School took over the building, please let me know if you have any information).

Mr Ernest Jordan M.A. was the headmaster until the school closed in 1965.  He died in 1982 aged 78.

The old building became a night club called The Collegiate Club, and then Winstons Hotel.   The building was later demolished in 1982.

The site now houses a large modern block of flats called Homewaye House.
