The Collegiate School

28 Poole Rd, Westbourne, Bournemouth.

The Collegiate School was a boy's school, occupying a building that was purpose built as a school back in 1876.
Originally a girls school it was taken over as a boy's school in the 30's when the girl's moved to a larger building.

By the 1960's the school was showing its age, and was not really up to the standards of the day.

Mr. Ernest Jordan was head of the Collegiate School when it closed in 1965, and he died in 1982 aged 78.

I have good memories of the school and enjoyed my time there.  

Mr. Jordan was a very fair man, and most of the teachers were pleasant. 

While there I started a band called Lawrence and the Arabians with three fellow pupils, Doug Lane, Dave Rothwell and John Hawkins.

Mr. Jordan kindly allowed us to use the auditorium as a rehearsal space.  We performed a show at the school for parents in 1963.
